We are looking for postdocs and PhD students interested in microwave technology and quantum materials.
Our overarching goal is to understand quantum materials, including unconventional superconductors, quantum-critical compounds, strange metals, and topological materials. We use quantum sensors and scanning probe microscopy to visualize different quantum variables locally, yielding new insights into the microscopic workings of quantum materials. Recently, as part of the SuperC consortium, we also started to work on new materials with the ultimate goal of room-temperature superconductivity.
We are looking for new members with passion, talent, and grit. Most of our projects are done in teams, so we look for people who enjoy working together, and learning from each other. For this project, you would integrate high-frequency techniques into scanning tunneling microscopy to measure completely new quantum mechanical degrees of freedom. More information can be found on our website, allanlab.org.
Our labs are at the University of Munich (LMU), in the historic city center, where Sommerfeld, Röntgen, and others made their breakthroughs. We are part of MCQST, MQV, and the bustling Munich physics community.
Please send inquiries/applications to milan.allan@lmu.de. Important: write 'Application Postdoc” in the subject line. Please attach a CV and a motivation letter (max one page) explaining why you want to join our group and your research interests.
