We are offering multiple PhD & postdoctoral positions to well-qualified, highly motivated, and dynamic young scientists who wish to enhance their scientific career in a stimulating environment. The successful candidates will be joining the group led by Christian Schilling which is part of the Chair of Theoretical Physics -- Quantum Matter together with Ulrich Schollwöck, Lode Pollet and Fabian Grusdt. The research of our group is concerned with the interface of Quantum Information Theory and Quantum Many-Body Physics. We resort to analytic approaches partly complemented by computational studies to gain universal insights into interacting quantum many-body systems. A particular emphasis lies on the concept of reduced density matrices and the ground state problem.

IQST | Open PhD position in Quantum Algorithm Compilation for Rydberg Quantum Computers

The Institute for Computer Architecture and Computer Engineering (ITI), the Institute for Theoretical Physics III at the University of Stuttgart and the Integrated Center for Quantum Science and Technology (IQST) seek applications for a PhD position in the field of quantum computing. The objective of the project is to develop and analyze methods for quantum algorithm compilation for the Rydberg platform. Compilation takes a quantum algorithm and translates it into instructions that can be executed on a given quantum computer, optimizing parameters such as the duration and/or the fidelity of the execution. The Rydberg platform provides a number of unusual features that can benefit compilation: the availability of n-qubit gates and the option of changing the qubit connectivity on-the-fly by “Rydberg shifts”. The goal of this project is to provide an integrated compilation approach that will also incorporate the deep knowledge about the optimal control pulses for the Rydberg platform to optimize entire circuits.

ML4Q | Bachelor, Master, PhD positions in the Ando group (Cologne)

The Ando group works on realizing Majorana fermions for topological quantum computing. All steps towards this goal are performed in our lab, from materials synthesis and nanofabrication to low-temperature and high-frequency measurements. The main research direction combines 3D topological insulator (TI) materials with superconductors and uses techniques from circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED) to study the mesoscopic physics for example inside TI Josephson junctions.

We are looking for ambitious Bachelor, Master and PhD students who want to face these challenges. Our lab offers a well-rounded hands-on education in material science, device fabrication, cryogenic experiments, and low-noise measurements. The vision of using our devices to realize more robust quantum information processors connects our research to the global effort of realizing a fault-tolerant quantum computer.
