New networking conference "Humboldt meets Leibniz" informs in Hannover about international career paths in academia in the academic world
How do I get a postdoc position in the USA? What career opportunities do universities offer international applicants? Unfortunately, there is often not enough time in the daily routine of science to plan one's academic career. The new conference format "Humboldt meets Leibniz" aims to change that.
|14 Humboldt Award winners with a research focus in optics and photonics will answer the questions of 150 selected PhD students and Postdocs two days long. According to the motto "Connecting Talents Across Generations" the 14 internationally renowned scientists will share their knowledge and experience with the selected conference participants and, for example, talk about their career paths in academia. There will also be time for networking. In addition to receiving impulses for your career planning, you can also present and discuss your research projects with these acclaimed scientists. |
Among those who have confirmed their participation are: Prof. Dr. Jun Ye (University of Colorado, Boulder, USA), Prof. Dr. Andrew M. Weiner (Purdue University, USA), Prof. Dr. Hans-Albert Bachor (emeritus; Australian National University, Australia) and Prof. Dr. Andrew Forbes (University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa).
Applications are open to all doctoral and postdoctoral students worldwide with a research focus in optical technologies, including material simulation, quantum optics, simulation, laser systems, optical imaging, metrology, and manufacturing technology. 150 participants will be admitted.
The application deadline is 1 November 2021.
The conference will take place from 12 to 14 June 2022 in Hannover, Germany. Participants will receive up to 1.000 Euro travel allowances.
Leibniz University Hannover organises the conference in cooperation with the VolkswagenStiftung and with the support of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Optical technologies and laser technology have a long tradition in Hannover. Since 2019, Leibniz Universität Hannover has had a cluster of excellence for this research focus - PhoenixD: Photonics, Optics, and Engineering - Innovation across Disciplines. For this reason, the content of the kick-off conference will focus on optics and photonics.
