Getting Started in the Quantum World

There are many different ways to enter the fascinating quantum world and to explore the matter and energy at the most fundamental level. Quantum phenomena are all around us, acting on every scale. You may just have started your career at your University or have already become an expert on your field.

On this page you'll find a variety of possibilities for Master's students:

Universität Hamburg | Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) |
Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter | European XFEL

UHH Physics Department

The english Master's degree course in physics deepens the basic knowledge acquired in the Bachelor degree course studies, and provides specialized knowledge which is based on current research.

Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) | Technische Universität Dresden (TUD)

Shared ct.qmat lectures by TU Dresden and JMU Würzburg - ct.qmat

Each professorship has its own research focus. To enable master and doctoral students from Dresden and Würzburg to benefit from the expertise of the other university, a cluster-specific lecture is offered and broadcast online.

Universität Stuttgart | Universität Ulm | Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research

Advanced lectures on QT | MSc Quantum Engineering (start in 2023)

At the Universities of Stuttgart and Ulm many interesting advanced lectures or seminars on quantum science and technology are offered within the master programs in physics, chemistry and engineering.
The new master program “Quantum Engineering” will start @UUlm in 2023.

MSc Program Photonic Engineering

As cross-disciplinary scientists, photonics engineers have the necessary knowledge of the physical nature of light, but also practical knowledge of optical components and their possible applications. Research and training in the field of photonics is therefore highly interdisciplinary.

University of Cologne | RWTH Aachen | University of Bonn | Research Center Jülich

Master in Quantum Science and Technology

Quantum Science & Technology is a broad, interdisciplinary field of contemporary science spanning a wide range of scientific areas with a high potential for the development of future information, sensing and computing technologies. The research field is firmly grounded on the basic understanding of the principles of quantum mechanics, but also relies on developments in neighbouring research areas such as mathematics, information technology, electrical engineering and chemistry. It is for this reason that the two Munich Universities – Technical University Munich (TUM) and Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich (LMU) – have joined forces to establish this interdisciplinary Master’s study program.

Leibnitz Universität Hannover | TU Braunschweig | Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. | Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) | Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt

Master's Program

The Leibniz University of Hannover offers a Master's study track, "Optical Technologies", in English and German. Furthermore, cooperation between the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering enables the Master's degree programme to build a bridge between basic research in physics and technical application.

Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) | Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. | University of Bremen, ZARM

MASTER in NANOTECHNOLOGY

Initiated by the Laboratory of Nano and Quantum Engineering, Leibniz University Hannover offers the interdisciplinary degree course Nanotechnology as Bachelor and consecutive Master. The advanced Master's programme offers a wide range of nanotechnology specialisation options, including Laser technology/photonics and Micro- and nanoelectronics.

MetroSommer

We offer late Bachelor and early Master students the opportunity to work on a project in one of the many PTB working groups. The skills learned here can be applied to the everyday lab life and extended. The topics range from atomic clocks over acoustics to explosives.

Quantum Engineering (Master of Science)

The programme primarily teaches students knowledge in all four pillars of quantum technologies: communication, simulation, sensors and computation. After completion of the programme, students will be able to use their technological expertise in individual specific fields of application to transfer quantum technology solutions from the basic research laboratory to practice.
